Free Vladimir Kara-Murza

Russian democracy activist Vladimir Kara-Murza is wrongfully detained in Russia.

Vladimir Kara-Murza is a prominent Russian democracy activist and opposition member who has been a powerful voice for human rights, rule of law, and freedom in Russia and an outspoken critic of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. He faced numerous threats and attacks due to his activism, including two near-fatal poisonings in 2015 and 2017.

In 2022, he was arbitrarily detained by Russian authorities on grounds of “treason” and is currently serving an unjust 25-year prison sentence. Kara-Murza’s arrest and sentencing is a grave injustice and another attempt by Vladimir Putin to silence strong voices of dissent.

In the wake of the killing of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the fate of Vladimir Kara-Murza is a matter of grave concern. Kara-Murza’s health is deteriorating in prison.

Because he is a U.S. green card holder, the State Department can designate Kara-Murza as a “wrongfully detained” U.S. national under the Levinson Act. This would allow the State Department to work toward his release.

Join us in asking your representatives to urge the State Department to designate Vladimir Kara-Murza as “wrongfully detained” under the Levinson Act and immediately prioritize securing his release.
