CNN’s Special Comes at a Crucial Time for American Muslims

3-29-2011

The latest installment of the CNN In America series profiles the Muslim community in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, which faced a wave of intolerance and experienced numerous setbacks when the community announced plans to build a house of worship. Human Rights First reported the case last summer, and we applaud Soledad O’Brien’s team for further investigating the story in Unwelcome: The Muslims Next Door.

The timing of the CNN special couldn’t be better, as other American Muslims are facing intolerance, bigotry, and even discrimination and violence. Today’s congressional hearing convened by Senator Durbin (D-IL) examines the civil rights of American Muslims. Read Human Rights First’s submission for the record, in which we argue that America must not falter on rights of Muslim Americans.

I believe so many people comment on this issue without knowing the facts. 1 Islam is not a religion and 2 they are in no way shape or form a peaceful people. I believe every American should watch the video Islam: What the west should know. This video can be found on netflix. Americans are under the believe that this is a religion trying to form in our society and that is just not the facts. Watch the video just over an hour and a half and decide for yourself.

People like you fascinate me. People who know nothing about a topic, yet HATE said topic. The courage of fools is truly bewildering. God forgive you for your hate.

Don, the real facts are: 1) you are not a religion. 2) you are in no way shape or form a peaceful person.

Our country is one in which people have a right to believe or not believe as they wish. If a group Christian, Morman, Scientologist, Budist, Seventh Day Adventist,Jewish, Muslim, etc. wants to call themselves a religion, they have that right. If one doesn’t believe the teachings of the group, one is free to not become a member. However, it is very unAmerican and, frankly, just plain ignorant to think you “know” that one group is a “real” religion and another isn’t.

Islam is a religion. We believe in many of the same prophets that Christians and Jews revere, including Adam, Abraham, Noah, Moses, Aaron, Job, David, Jesus, and many more (may peace be upon them). We also pray five times a day to the Creator of the Universe.
