Human Rights Defenders Program

Last week, Human Rights First reported that Jalila al-Salman was hospitalized after a 10 day hunger strike protesting her detention.  Over the weekend, she and fellow detainee, Roula Al Saffar, were released from prison after almost five months of detention.  While the release is favorable, both will face trial in the coming months.  At present, three women and several dozen men are still detained for participating in anti-government activities.

Thank you for following these events so closely. The people of Bahrain are really suffering from the continued oppression of the regime. We want to see all the people who were arrested & detained for “protesting” released and all charges dropped. After the Crown Prince himself assured people that protesting peacefully was a guaranteed right of the Bahraini people, they believed that to be true.
The continued arrests and now the return to military trials is a huge disappointment to everyone.
