Annie Sovcik, senior counsel for Human Rights First’s Refugee Protection Program, joined immigration experts, judges, practitioners, academics, and former detainees at Rutgers University in New Jersey to discuss issues surrounding U.S. immigration detention.
In the conference entitled, Immigrant Detainees: Alone, Unrepresented & Imprisoned, Sovcik highlighted the jail-like and inhumane conditions of civil immigration detention and how these conditions run counter to the promises of immigration reform by the Obama Administration.
The conference organized by Rutgers School of Law–Newark, Seton Hall Law School, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and New York University School of Law.
