Joined Human Rights First in 2012

Andrea Guttin is an associate attorney in the Refugee Protection program, where she provides information and legal services to asylum seekers in DHS detention, and helps to coordinate their legal representation. She also works to increase pro bono representation in New Jersey for detained immigrants.

Before joining Human Rights First, Andrea was a staff attorney at the Georgia Legal Services Program in Savannah, Georgia, where she represented Spanish-speaking clients in state and administrative courts. She previously interned or volunteered with LatinoJustice PRLDEF, the Door, and the ACLU of Texas. Andrea is the author of “The Criminal Alien Program: Immigration Enforcement in Travis County, Texas,” released by the Immigration Policy Center in February 2010.

Andrea has a B.A. in English and History from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas), and a J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law. She is admitted to practice law in Georgia and Texas, and is awaiting admission in New York.
