Joined Human Rights First in 2008
As the Advocacy Counsel for Human Rights First’s Refugee Protection Program and Chair of the Asylum Working Group, Annie is responsible for devising, coordinating, and executing strategies for influencing laws and policies impacting asylum seekers in the United States, including issues related to the detention of asylum seekers, the adverse impact of the terrorism bars on refugees, and improving the immigration courts and asylum adjudication process. Prior to joining Human Rights First, Annie was the staff attorney at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) in Baltimore, MD where she provided legal support and training on immigration law and policy to LIRS and its partner organizations on issues related to the detention of immigrants, refugee exclusion, refugee family reunification, and treatment of unaccompanied immigrant children. Annie graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law. While in law school Annie interned with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Washington, DC and the Pro Bono Asylum Representation Project (ProBar) in Harlingen, TX. Annie has a B.A. in International Studies from the University of Denver.
