Duncan Breen

Joined Human Rights First in 2011
Duncan Breen is responsible for Human Rights First’s efforts to enhance the international protection of LGBTI refugees, advocate for expedited resettlement procedures to be available for refugees at risk, and encourage States and UN agencies to address xenophobic violence.
Prior to joining Human Rights First, Duncan was based in South Africa with the Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South Africa (CoRMSA) where he conducted advocacy on multiple protection challenges facing refugees and migrants, including protection against xenophobic violence. Duncan also convened the Hate Crimes Working Group, an inter-sectoral civil society group that lobbies for increased protection from hate crimes for a range of at risk groups in South Africa.
Duncan holds a Masters degree in Development Studies from the University of Cape Town.
