Elisabeth Centeno
John Gardner Fellow
Executive Office
Joined Human Rights First in 2007

As a John Gardner Fellow in Public Service, Elisabeth contributes to human rights advocacy on two fronts: working within the programmatic areas of Human Rights First and offering assistance to the executive office on major projects.

Currently, Elisabeth conducts background research, writes reports, monitors media developments, and helps with general campaign efforts for Elect to End Torture ’08.

As an undergraduate at Stanford, Elisabeth worked at Stanford Law School’s Immigrants’ Rights Clinic conducting research on immigrant detention and interpreting for clients seeking asylum in the United States. For two summers, Elisabeth worked as a legal extern at Public Counsel Law Center in Los Angeles, first with the Children’s Rights Project, aiding caretakers petitioning for guardianship of minors, and then with the Adoptions Project, helping families finalize their adoption of children from the foster care system. Elisabeth also served as Public Interest Chair of Derechos, Stanford’s Latino Pre-Law Society, where she recruited undergraduates to serve as interpreters at legal aid clinics serving low-income communities in the Bay Area.

Elisabeth earned her B.A. in International Relations and Art History, with distinction, from Stanford University.
