Joined Human Rights First in 2008
Annie Sovcik is the Advocacy Counsel for the Refugee Protection Program in the Washington, DC office. Prior to joining Human Rights First, Annie was the staff attorney at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) in Baltimore, MD where she provided legal support and training on immigration law and policy to LIRS and its partner organizations on issues related to the detention of immigrants, refugee exclusion, refugee family reunification, and treatment of unaccompanied immigrant children. Annie graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2005. While in law school Annie interned with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Washington, DC and the Pro Bono Asylum Representation Project (ProBar) in Harlingen, TX. Annie has a B.A. in International Studies from the University of Denver. Annie has spent time working and/or studying in China, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Costa Rica.
