Jennifer Rizzo

National Pro Bono Promotion Counsel

As the National Pro Bono Promotion Counsel, Jennifer L. Rizzo works on promoting pro bono representation for asylum seekers and immigrants across the United States.

Before joining Human Rights First, Jen served as the Immigration Legal Services Director at Journey’s End Refugee Services in Buffalo, New York. In that role, she launched and significantly expanded a pro bono legal program, and anchored the program’s legacy in place by securing sustainable funding. Jen also created an Immigrant Legal Walk-In Clinic that was the first of its kind in Western New York, by partnering with other civil legal service providers and offering interpretation in over 25 languages.

Prior to her legal career, Jen worked as an on-air news reporter and anchor for 10 years in television news markets that included her hometown, Burlington, VT and Fort Myers, FL. She also worked as an overseas correspondent for Deutsche Welle Radio in Bonn, Germany, for which she travelled extensively around Europe and Africa.

Jen was a 2006 Robert Bosch Foundation Fellow, a 2005 RIAS Berlin Commission Journalist Fellow, and a recipient of a 2002 Vermont Associated Press (AP) Award. Jen received her J.D. from the University at Buffalo Law School and she graduated cum laude from Ithaca College with a B.A. in Journalism. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and she is admitted to practice law in New York and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
