As Chief Operating Officer, Zach Silverstein oversees all activities of Human Rights First and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan. He manages the executive team and reports to the President and CEO.
Zach’s professional career spans business, law, government, and politics. He is widely experienced in organizational growth and change, political and legal advocacy, and the management of multiple organizational functions. Zach has written and spoken nationally about employment and workplace issues, student affairs, and litigation, among other topics.
Before joining Human Rights First, Zach was President of the Insight division of Amplify, an industry-leading education technology company. Zach rose through various executive roles before becoming president and overseeing multiple lines of business, numerous corporate functions, and hundreds of employees. Under his leadership, the business served millions of school children and hundreds of thousands of educators throughout the U.S. Prior to his executive roles in education technology, Silverstein was a partner in the Chicago law firm formerly known as Babbitt, Land, Silverstein & Warner LLP, where his practice focused on higher education law, commercial litigation, employment matters, and appeals. Earlier in his career, Zach served as Legislative Director for U.S. Congressman Mel Watt (NC-12) and worked on political campaigns of national significance, including the 1990 Harvey Gantt for U.S. Senate campaign (NC) and the 1992 Clinton-Gore presidential campaign.
Zach earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from Yale College, where he graduated with Distinction in the History Major. He holds a J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University, where he was admitted to the Order of the Coif. After graduation from law school, Zach clerked for The Honorable R. Guy Cole of the U.S. Court of Appeals (6th Cir.).
