Symbolic Presentation of Roger Baldwin Medal of Liberty by Colombian Human Rights Organizations

On June 20, 2007, Human Rights First presented Ivan Cepeda with the Roger Baldwin Medal of Liberty in New York. After his return home, and in order to recognize this achievement in Colombia, a number of Colombian human rights organizations organized an event for Ivan to symbolically re-present him with the award. The event was held in Bogota on July 12, 2007. It was well attended and featured speeches by Ivan, the President of the Lawyers Collective Jose Alvear Restrepo, the Permanent Committee for the Protection of Human Rights and other organizations. Ivan was presented with a plaque in recognition of being awarded the Baldwin Medal of Liberty.

The event recognized the importance of Ivan’s human rights work within Colombia. It also highlighted the significance of the work performed by other human rights defenders in Colombia.
