Human Rights Defenders on the Frontlines of Freedom: Protecting Human Rights in the Context of the Global War on Terror

From November 10-12, 2003, prominent human rights defenders from around the globe met in Atlanta, Georgia at the Carter Center to discuss the challenges faced by such defenders as they conduct their work in the context of the "war on terror". Human Rights First participated in the conference, which was co-chaired by President Carter and Acting High Commissioner for Human Rights, Bertrand Ramcharan, along with the UN Special Representative on Human Rights Defenders, Hina Jilani and other prominent figures such as Saad Eddin Ibrahim (Egypt), Helen Mack (Guatemala), Sima Samar (Afghanistan) and Willy Mutunga (Kenya).
