Our inaugural Summit brought together international civil society activists and political leaders, U.S. policymakers, military and business leaders to discuss strategies to ensure human rights remain at the forefront of U.S. policymaking. The response was extraordinary: more than 400 people attended and 46,000 logged on to view the Summit sessions online, extending our reach far beyond the Washington beltway. Notable speakers included Senator John McCain, Russian activist Garry Kasparov, White House Director for Human Rights Samantha Power, Facebook Executive Elliot Schrage, AFRICOM Commander General Carter Ham, and Syrian opposition leader Bassma Khodmani. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Ai Weiwei, and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush also addressed the gathering remotely.
