The Refugee Convention at
50:
A Panel to Assess U.S.
Accomplishments and the Challenges Ahead
in the Great Hall at the House of the
Association of the Bar of the City of New York
WHAT: The effective U.S. moratorium on admitting refugees has left over 20,000 in limbo incountries all over the world, and the Bush Administration is considering lowering the number of refugees it permits into the country in 2002. This panel was planned before September 11, but has a range of concerns to consider in its wake. In particular panelists will examine the accomplishments of and challenges faced by the United States in refugee policy, in the 50 years since the right to seek refugee was enshrined by the United Nations and countries world-wide.
