Human rights defenders across the globe look to the United States for inspiration and count on it for support. In the case of China, Human Rights First works to amplify the voices of Chinese lawyers who are pushing for their government to respect the rule of law. We press for the United States to put human rights as a priority in U.S.-China relations. By harnessing American influence, we aim to secure core freedoms for human rights defenders–including the right to free speech and assembly.
