A decade after 9/11, a question we should ask is whether our nation has become smarter about confronting the national security challenges we face. Overreaction in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks led to Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, and jeopardized both our values and our security. In the ten years since 9/11, it has become clear that when we violate the rule of law, we undermine our security.
