In the CourtsLegal Briefs Written and Coordinated by Human Rights First in Post-Sept. 11 CasesThrough our Joint Litigation Project with the Allard K. Lowenstein International Human Rights Clinic at Yale Law School, Human Rights First works to promote positive developments in U.S. law related to human rights. We offer direct legal assistance to civilian and military lawyers and other advocates as they grapple with unfamiliar provisions of constitutional, military and international law. We conceive and coordinate amicus briefing efforts, working strategically and reaching out to bipartisan partners to make sure that the courts have the benefit of legal insights the parties may not be able to provide themselves, and to make sure that signatories most likely to be persuasive to the courts are part of key amicus briefs. And we research and draft amicus briefs ourselves, drawing on our broad expertise in constitutional, international and comparative law.
