As a legal services coordinator for the Washington, D.C., Refugee Representation team, Nancy Giesel serves as a liaison between mentoring attorneys, pro bono attorney teams, and clients to ensure high-quality legal representation for asylum seekers.
Prior to joining Human Rights First, Nancy worked as a paralegal at a private immigration firm in San Francisco, where she became passionate about working with asylum seekers. Before that, she interned with immigrant aid organizations in the D.C. metropolitan area, including Legal Aid Justice Center and the International Rescue Committee. Her volunteer experience includes working with migrant sugarcane workers in the Dominican Republic and teaching unaccompanied minors at a youth migrant shelter in Mexico City.
Nancy graduated summa cum laude from Wittenberg University, with majors in International Studies and Spanish. She was awarded “Student Program of the Year” for a panel she organized about immigration issues in Ohio. She obtained her Masters in Migration Studies from the University of San Francisco, where she specialized in refugee law and policy. She speaks Spanish fluently.
