Human Rights First’s Egypt Expert to Discuss Current Crisis

Washington, DC – As protests and cries for reform intensify in Egypt, Human Rights First International Policy Advisor Neil Hicks will offer commentary and discuss the organization’s policy recommendations during an upcoming Project on Middle East Democracy panel hosted by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC. A Middle East expert and frequent traveler to Egypt, Hicks will address issues including internet freedom and steps the Obama Administration’s should take to protect Egyptians from a possible bloodbath. Scheduled to join Hicks for this discussion is Bahey al-Din Hassan, director of the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies. Michele Dunne of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will moderate the discussion, which will largely focus on current events in Egypt and whether these protests with ultimately lead to a more transparent and democratic political process in Egypt.
