Global Magnitsky and Serious Human Rights Abuse

Human Rights First and Freedom House produced this fact sheet to explain how the “serious human rights abuse” standard has allowed the Global Magnitsky sanctions program to be an effective but responsible tool for holding corrupt and abusive actors to account.

As Congress considers reauthorizing the Global Magnitsky Act, we urge members to support legislation that would incorporate this standard, which is drawn from President Trump’s 2017 executive order and other sanctions laws.
