Religious freedom-related sanctions not possible under the Global Magnitsky Act

Human Rights First and Freedom House produced a fact sheet to explain how Global Magnitsky sanctions have helped protect international religious freedom – because the Trump administration's Executive Order expanded those sanctions beyond the narrow terms of the initial Global Magnitsky Act.

As Congress considers reauthorizing the Act, we urge members -- especially those who wish to see these sanctions used to help hold accountable those who commit violence against ethnic and religious minorities -- to support codifying those improvements.
