For nearly 50 years, Human Rights First has been a leader in defending the rights of refugees and immigrants in the United States. From securing bipartisan passage of the Refugee Act of 1980 to defending against assaults on the right to seek asylum, we strive every day to protect this crucial lifeline.

We partner with pro bono attorneys to provide high-quality legal representation to people who would otherwise face the immigration system alone, while also documenting the impacts of policies on immigrant communities, advocating for rights-respecting solutions, and holding governments accountable for human rights violations.

Active Projects

Policy advocacy advances human rights protections by combining research and public reporting with engagement with decision-makers to influence laws, oversight, and policy solutions.
